Welfare Application & Forms

There is no guaranteed government support when it comes to funerals, so any financial help you receive will be discretionary. Of the ~30,000 death in Ireland, every year roughly 1 in 10 receive Exceptional Needs payment (ENP) / Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) to help at this difficult time. The following grants/payments are listed so that you might see what additional financial support you might be entitled to

The Department of Social Protection will most likely be one of the priorities to be informed of the death. Their normal practice is that the social welfare payments of the deceased may continue for up to six weeks after the death has occurred. However, this is normally paid in a lump sum, and rules regarding such an arrangement are complex. Also, it can come as a surprise when money has to be paid back to the Department that has been improperly received.
